President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, succeeding Professor Is-haq Oloyede whose second tenure will expire on July 31, 2026.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Professor Aina, who turns 40 in July, is regarded as one of Nigeria’s leading experts in computer engineering, examination systems, and digital institutional reforms.
His appointment also makes him the youngest Registrar in the history of JAMB.
According to the presidency, Aina brings over 15 years of post-graduation experience spanning technology, education systems, digital infrastructure, and public-sector reforms.
He obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, United Kingdom, before earning both his MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security and PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University.
He also attended the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
Before his appointment, Aina was a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, where he built a strong reputation in systems engineering and institutional digital transformation.
The statement noted that his relationship with JAMB dates back to his National Youth Service year, where he first gained experience in Nigeria’s national admissions system and examination administration processes.
Over the years, he has worked extensively with examination bodies and educational institutions on digital reforms, examination integrity, and ICT-driven operational systems.
He has also served as consultant to major examination agencies including National Examinations Council and National Business and Technical Examinations Board, alongside several state ministries of education.
Professor Aina is a member of several professional organisations including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that the new JAMB Registrar would deploy his expertise and experience to strengthen the operations of the examination body and build on the reforms introduced by his predecessor.
The appointment comes at a critical period for Nigeria’s education sector as stakeholders continue to push for improved transparency, digital efficiency, and credibility in national examination systems.
Under Professor Oloyede, JAMB witnessed major reforms in examination monitoring, remittance transparency, and computer-based testing systems, earning national recognition for institutional accountability.
Analysts believe Aina’s strong technology background could signal a new phase of deeper digital transformation within the examination body.
