SPOTLIGHT: WHO IS FAMADEWA? MEET TINUBU’S NEW HOMELAND SECURITY ADVISER

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Adeyinka A. Famadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security, reinforcing the administration’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s internal security architecture and intelligence coordination.

The appointment was conveyed in a circular signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and issued by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Ibrahim Abubakar Kana.

According to the statement, the appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to enhancing intelligence-driven operations, improving inter-agency collaboration, and addressing emerging security threats across the country through more coordinated homeland security strategies.

Major General Famadewa (Rtd) is a highly decorated retired military officer with over three decades of experience spanning intelligence operations, national security strategy, counter-terrorism coordination, and international security diplomacy.

During his service as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser at the Office of the National Security Adviser between 2015 and 2021, he played a major role in developing Nigeria’s modern intelligence coordination framework.

One of his notable contributions was spearheading the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre (IFC) at ONSA, an integrated multi-agency intelligence platform bringing together the Defence Intelligence Agency, National Intelligence Agency, Department of State Services, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Armed Forces to improve national threat assessment and response coordination.

Following his retirement from active military service, Famadewa served as Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, where he contributed to policy discussions on policing, civil-security cooperation, and national security reform.

He is also credited with authoring the monograph, Policing and National Security in Nigeria, which explores practical approaches to strengthening collaboration between civil authorities and security institutions.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that the retired General’s experience and strategic expertise would further support efforts to build a safer and more secure Nigeria through proactive risk management, improved intelligence integration, and effective homeland security coordination.

The President also urged him to deploy his professionalism, operational experience, and leadership capacity in advancing the administration’s security objectives under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
