DISPATCH RIDER’S DEATH: HON. ADEWALE TEMITOPE DEMANDS JUSTICE, CALLS FOR PROSECUTION OF NURTW MEMBER

The Chairman of the Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Transportation, Hon. Adewale Temitope Adedeji, OON, has strongly condemned the brutal killing of a dispatch rider on Tapa Street, Lagos Island, allegedly by a member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Shamsideen Adio, and his associates.

The disturbing incident, captured in a video that has been in circulation since Thursday, September 18, 2025, showed how Shamsideen and his group viciously attacked the victim until he lost consciousness. Shockingly, even when bystanders attempted to revive the dispatch rider, Shamsideen continued the assault, ultimately snuffing life out of the young man.

Describing the act as barbaric, shameful, inhuman, and heartbreaking, Hon. Adewale Temitope said such behavior is intolerable and must not go unpunished.

“Whatever the alleged provocation may have been, there is no justification for taking another person’s life. The sanctity of human life is sacred, and no human being has the right to assume superiority over another,” he declared.

He commended the Lagos State Police Command for swiftly arresting the prime suspect but emphasized that the matter must be taken to its logical conclusion in court. According to him, justice must not only be done but must also be seen to be done, to serve as a deterrent to others who may think they are above the law.

Hon. Adewale Temitope further called on the leadership of the Lagos State NURTW, led by Alhaji Adekunle Mustapha Seigo, to immediately suspend Shamsideen and publicly dissociate the union from his barbaric actions. He noted that the NURTW, as a professional body, should not harbor individuals who display such lawlessness and disregard for human life.

The lawmaker also stressed the urgent need for continuous education and enlightenment of NURTW members to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

“We can only imagine the pain of a family who watched their breadwinner leave home to earn a living, only for him never to return because of another man’s lawlessness. This gruesome act must be condemned by every well-meaning Nigerian,” he said.

He concluded by reaffirming that nobody, no matter their status or affiliation, has the right to take another human being’s life.
