Remo Secondary School (RSS), one of Ogun State's most prestigious public secondary schools, has made history with a groundbreaking university-style graduation ceremony for its Class of 2026, setting a new benchmark for secondary school valedictory celebrations in Nigeria.
The historic event transformed the traditional valedictory service into a colourful convocation-style ceremony, with graduating students dressed in academic gowns and caps, creating an atmosphere usually associated with university graduations.
In a unique display of academic tradition, the school's principals, teachers and members of the National Executive of the Remo Secondary School Old Students' Association (RSSOSA) also appeared in academic regalia, adding prestige and grandeur to the ceremony.
The innovative approach made the event one of the most memorable in the school's history while reinforcing the value of academic excellence and inspiring students as they prepare for tertiary education.
Beyond celebrating academic achievement, the ceremony recognised students who distinguished themselves through exemplary character, discipline, leadership and outstanding moral conduct, with several awards presented across different categories.
A major highlight of the event was the presentation of full tertiary education scholarships to about 25 deserving students by the Hope Bridge Social Impact Foundation, providing beneficiaries with the opportunity to pursue higher education without financial barriers.
Speaking at the ceremony, RSSOSA President, Sir Aare Adetola Emmanuelking, KOF, congratulated the graduating students and commended the school management, teachers and parents for their dedication to nurturing future leaders.
He also praised Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for his administration's commitment to improving education through initiatives such as the Yellow Revolution, which he said has contributed significantly to creating a better learning environment across public schools.
Emmanuelking further acknowledged the efforts of the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, for advancing educational development in the state.
The ceremony also underscored the enduring relationship between the school and its alumni, whose continued support has played a vital role in sustaining the institution's legacy of excellence.
Education stakeholders believe the university-style graduation could become a model for other secondary schools across Nigeria, offering students a more memorable transition into higher education while celebrating academic success with greater dignity and pride.
