It was indeed a Black Wednesday for Nigerian gospel music lovers as the news of the death of popular gospel singer Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, widely known as Toluwanisings, sent shock waves through the gospel music community.
His family confirmed his passing in an announcement on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, stating that he died in the early hours of the day. The family described him as a dearly loved husband, family member and gospel minister, while asking for prayers for his wife, relatives and loved ones. Funeral arrangements, it added, would be announced in due course.
The announcement triggered an outpouring of grief from colleagues, fans and admirers who celebrated the singer’s voice and contributions to gospel music.
Among those who paid tribute was gospel comedian and minister Woli Agba, who titled his emotional message “Sunset at Midday.” Describing the late singer as possessing a “VERY UNIQUE VOICE,” he lamented the loss with the words, “An angel just passed on,” before bidding him farewell: “Sing with the Angels, Bro.”
Death Comes Days After Wedding Anniversary
Toluwanisings’ death has been particularly painful for fans because it came shortly after a significant milestone in his personal life. The singer and his wife celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary on September 25, 2026.
Reports also indicated that he had attended a gospel programme in Ibadan on Tuesday, October 13, just a day before news of his death was confirmed. His reported participation in the programme has added to the shock and disbelief surrounding his passing.
His death also follows a road accident in July in which he and members of his crew reportedly survived after their vehicle narrowly escaped being crushed by a fully loaded trailer while returning from a ministration.
However, no official information has established a connection between the earlier accident and his death. The circumstances surrounding his passing had not been officially disclosed in the reports available.
Songs That Defined His Ministry
Toluwanisings was known for his energetic praise ministrations and gospel recordings, which earned him recognition among worshippers and gospel music enthusiasts.
Among the songs associated with his ministry are A Very Big God, Unreserved Praise, E Lagbara and Kos’Oluwa Laye. Through his music and live ministrations, he became known for a worship style that connected with audiences through praise and expressions of faith.
His passing has left family members, fellow ministers and fans mourning the loss of a gospel voice whose music formed part of their worship experiences.
As tributes continue to emerge, the family has appealed for prayers and support during this difficult period, saying further information about his funeral arrangements would be communicated in due course.
