| Seyi Vodi, fashion entrepreneur and founder of Vodi Group |
The name Seyi Adekunle may not immediately ring a bell to everyone. But mention Seyi Vodi, and the name carries a different weight.
For more than two decades, he has steadily transformed his tailoring journey into a wider fashion enterprise, one that now stretches beyond clothes into footwear, textiles, training, production and, increasingly, the machinery that keeps the industry moving.
At 51, Seyi's story is therefore no longer simply about becoming a successful fashion designer. It is about what happens when a tailor begins to think like an industrialist.
His Vodi Group has grown around different aspects of the fashion and service ecosystem, including Vodi Tailors, Vodi Debbo, Vodi Shoes, Vodi Textile, Vodi Kleen and the Vodi Training Institute. Public profiles of the group have highlighted its training activities and the number of young Nigerians who have passed through its skills-development programmes.
That training philosophy has also taken a practical form.
Rather than simply telling young people to learn a skill, Seyi has supported them with the tools to practise it. In 2025, he gave 40 customised sewing machines to young entrepreneurs, including former corps members. More recently, the empowerment effort has featured a partnership with Moremonee/M&M Microfinance Bank, bringing financial services and entrepreneurship into the conversation around supporting young Nigerians.
It is a natural extension of a journey that began with a sewing machine of his own.
Now, Seyi is taking another step.
The Vodi Sewing Machine moves his interest beyond the finished garment and into the equipment behind production. His public posts describe the machine as a product developed with modern tailors and designers in mind.
For someone who began by learning to sew during his NYSC years, there is something significant about eventually putting his own name on the machine.
But perhaps the most revealing part of Seyi's journey is what happens beyond the factory.
His children are being introduced to the business from the inside — not simply the fashion shows, celebrity clients and finished garments, but fabrics, production and the machinery behind the work. That suggests that for Seyi, success is not complete if the knowledge stops with him.
His story has therefore moved beyond tailoring. It is about skills, tools, enterprise and succession.
The young tailor who once saw possibility in a trade has spent more than two decades expanding that possibility for himself and others.
And as the fashion industry continues to evolve, Seyi Vodi appears to be thinking about something bigger than the next collection.
He is thinking about who will make the clothes, who will train them, what machines they will use, how they will finance their businesses and who will carry the knowledge forward.
That may ultimately be the most enduring stitch in the Vodi story.
