Governor Charles Soludo on Friday inaugurated a massive free Psychiatric Hospital and Home for the Elderly in Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area, built by Seraphic Homes Foundation, a non-profit charity established by Evangelist Chukwuebuka “Ebuka” Anozie Obi, Spiritual Director of Zion Prayer Movement Outreach.
The N600 million facility is designed to provide completely free psychiatric care, including diagnosis, treatment, medication, rehabilitation, accommodation, and welfare support for individuals battling mental illnesses.
The inauguration comes just five months after Evangelist Ebuka opened a gigantic orphanage and elderly home in Mgbirichi, Owerri, Imo State, which provides free care, education up to university level for orphans, and comprehensive support for elderly residents.
Speaking at the ceremony, Evangelist Ebuka said, “This hospital will start functioning fully from next month. We will have four vehicles going across Anambra to pick up individuals in need of psychiatric care and bring them here. This is my childhood vision. In the western world, mentally challenged persons are not left to roam the streets—this is a reality we want to change in Nigeria.”
He further disclosed plans to expand the initiative to other states, including Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Rivers, and beyond.
Governor Soludo commended the evangelist for the initiative, promising full support from the state government. He assured the construction of the access road and connection to the national grid, as well as financial assistance to sustain the hospital’s free medical services.
Seraphic Homes Foundation described the clinic as Nigeria’s first-ever free psychiatric hospital, marking a new chapter in healthcare and social support by blending medical science with love, faith, and compassion.
“The vision behind this project is to create a society where the mentally challenged are no longer abandoned on the streets but are embraced, treated, rehabilitated, and empowered to live meaningful lives,” Evangelist Ebuka added.
Governor Soludo lauded the evangelist, stating, “Evangelist Ebuka Obi has demonstrated the true essence of Christianity through this act. Our administration looks forward to partnering with Zion Ministry to support the poor and vulnerable in Anambra State.”
