The Alliance for Youth Nigeria is celebrating four years of impact, having transformed the lives of more than 25,000 young Nigerians through skills development, entrepreneurship support, and employment opportunities.
Founded by Nestlé Nigeria, Jobberman Nigeria, Big Bottling Company, the United Nations Global Compact Network Nigeria, and U-Connect HR Limited, the Alliance is supported by key partners including the Federal Ministry of Youth, Lagos State Employment Trust Fund, and Activate Success International. Together, they are driving a bold vision to equip 250,000 young Nigerians with employability and entrepreneurial skills by 2030.
This year, 585 young people in Jos benefited from the Alliance’s flagship Vocational Skills Training Program, gaining practical skills in beauty care, video editing, solar panel installation, and web design. High-performing participants received start-up kits and seed capital, enabling them to immediately put their new skills to use. Trainees also showcased their abilities through real-world projects, highlighting the program’s direct and tangible benefits.
Speaking on behalf of the private sector, Shakiru Lawal, Country Human Resource Manager, Nestlé Nigeria, reaffirmed the Alliance’s commitment: “As a proud member of the Alliance for Youth Nigeria, Nestlé Nigeria is committed to empowering young people with the skills, confidence, and opportunities they need to thrive. Together with our partners, we are creating pathways to employment, building careers, and nurturing the next generation of leaders who will shape a better future for our nation.”
Representing the United Nations Global Compact Network Nigeria, Stephanie Iwunze, speaking on behalf of Naomi Nwokolo, CEO/ED, underscored the global urgency: “Nigeria’s youth represent a vital segment of the country’s population. In an era of rapid technological change, it is imperative to invest deliberately in this generation. Without focused action, Nigeria risks falling further behind in keeping pace with global progress.”
From the government’s perspective, Mrs. Deborah Simon Pitmang, Zonal Coordinator, Federal Ministry of Youth, applauded the initiative: “Any alliance that focuses on developing young people’s skills is not only building individuals but also building the nation. The truth remains: the higher the skills, the higher the gains. We commend the Alliance for Youth Nigeria for sustaining its efforts and preparing future generations for success.”
Adding the employability perspective, Olamide Adeyeye, Country Head of Programmes, Jobberman Nigeria, said: “With over 70% of Nigeria’s population being youth, there can be no socioeconomic transformation without investing in young people. This is why Jobberman, as a member of the Alliance, continues to support millions of youths to upskill and transition into meaningful work.”
Since its inception, the Alliance for Youth Nigeria has provided vocational training, entrepreneurship support, and employability programs to more than 25,000 young people nationwide, with participants either securing employment or successfully launching their businesses.
Looking ahead, the Alliance is committed to deepening its impact, expanding training opportunities, strengthening public-private partnerships, and innovating to meet the evolving realities of Nigeria’s job market.
