NIPOST BOARD CHAIRMAN KEKEMEKE DECLARES WAR ON SABOTEURS, CALLS FOR URGENT REFORM AT 2-DAY STRATEGIC WORKSHOP

By Princess Adeola Shittu

The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has signaled the beginning of a bold transformation, as Board Chairman, Chief D.I. Kekemeke, declared an uncompromising stance against inefficiency and internal sabotage during a two-day strategic workshop held in Abuja.

The high-level engagement, which brought together board members and top management of the agency, marks a renewed commitment to reposition NIPOST in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

In a rousing address on the first day of the workshop, Chief Kekemeke described the status quo as unsustainable, warning that NIPOST must either embrace change or risk extinction. “Change is not always easy, but the world we live in today is a product of change. We must reform, rebrand, and restrategise. We must be technologically and digitally competitive, get innovative, and operate efficiently,” he charged.

The Board Chairman did not mince words as he addressed what he described as “mail rats”—internal and external saboteurs who have continually frustrated the operations of the agency. “Those who resist change will be powerfully resisted,” he warned. “NIPOST must work, and work very well.”

Chief Kekemeke further affirmed his readiness to make bold decisions in support of the President’s vision. “In this place and as Chair of the board, I shall not be afraid to take decisions, and I shall help the President to succeed.”

Postmaster General, Tola Odeyemi, who was also present at the workshop, echoed the Chairman’s sentiments and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to innovation. She emphasized NIPOST’s readiness to leverage technology, e-commerce, and strategic partnerships to reposition the agency for optimal service delivery. “NIPOST will no longer disappoint Nigerians,” she assured.

Throughout the workshop, participants deliberated on new frameworks and approaches that would strengthen the institution’s relevance in a rapidly evolving digital economy. Stakeholders unanimously agreed that with the right strategy, support, and commitment, NIPOST could become a central player in Nigeria’s communications and logistics landscape.

As the workshop continues into its second day, there is renewed hope that NIPOST is finally on the path to redemption—guided by a leadership that is unafraid to confront hard truths and committed to meaningful reform.
