BRUTALISED FEMALE DRIVER FINDS SUPPORT AS NURTW CHAIRMAN, SEGO CHAMPIONS JUSTICE AND WOMEN’S SAFETY

In a strong show of support for women’s rights and safety on Lagos roads, the Chairman of the Lagos State Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle Adio, popularly known as Tafa Sego, has stepped up to advocate for Miss Yetunde Amole, a female driver who was recently assaulted by a tout in the Ajah area.

The meeting, which took place at the union’s headquarters in Oko Oba, Agege, was marked by a warm reception and symbolic solidarity. Alhaji Sego, suspending his prior engagements to personally welcome Miss Amole, reassured her of the union’s full backing and commitment to justice.

This development signals a significant moment in the growing conversation around the safety and rights of women in male-dominated industries like road transport. Sego made it clear that the assailant is not a member of the union but a known area boy operating outside the bounds of NURTW regulations.

“This is not who we are,” Sego said firmly. “Our union is committed to professionalism and respect for all, especially for courageous women like Yetunde who are breaking barriers in the transport sector.”

He lauded the swift action of the Lagos State Government in apprehending the suspect and assured that the union would lend its full weight to ensure the perpetrator is brought to justice.

Sego’s statement also served as a warning to any NURTW member who might consider undermining the union’s values of discipline and respect. He emphasized that female drivers, like all transport professionals, deserve to work without fear of harassment or violence.

The incident has sparked wider conversations about the protection of female workers on the roads and the importance of institutional support in creating safer environments for women in the workforce.
