SENATOR FADAHUNSI APOLOGISES TO OWA HAASTRUP, DENIES CALL FOR VIOLENCE

Senator Adenigba Fadahunsi, OFR, has apologised for the tension generated by remarks he made during a campaign visit to the palace of the Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko III, while insisting that he never called for violence.

Fadahunsi said his visit to the palace followed the conclusion of the Osun State governorship election and was primarily intended to seek justice over the killing of some members of his political party and express his concerns over the incidents.

According to the senator, his remarks were made at a difficult emotional moment but were subsequently portrayed by critics as an appeal for violence.

He maintained that he did not call for chaos or violence, describing the interpretation of his comments as unfair.

Fadahunsi said he was deeply affected by the deaths of party members and that his appeal was centred on justice rather than confrontation.

The senator also commended the Owa of Ijesaland, Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, for the manner in which he handled the situation.

Fadahunsi praised the monarch for remaining calm and demonstrating wisdom despite criticism surrounding the incident and claims that the senator's remarks were disrespectful to the traditional institution.

He described the Owa as a father to all residents of Ijesaland, regardless of political affiliation, saying the monarch's measured response helped prevent the situation from escalating.

The senator said the conduct of leaders during moments of political tension should be guided by the broader interests of the people rather than personal feelings or political differences.

Fadahunsi said the peace and stability of Osun State, particularly Ijesaland, should take precedence over political disagreements.

“Because the peace of Osun State and Ijesaland in particular is far more important than any political dispute, victory, or defeat, I sincerely apologise for the tension that resulted from this misunderstanding,” he said.

He also appealed to his supporters and other residents of the state to embrace peace and contribute to efforts aimed at healing following the election.

The senator urged residents to respect the role of traditional institutions in promoting peace, unity and stability in Ijesaland.

Despite his apology, Fadahunsi said his demand for justice over the deaths of his party members remained unchanged.

He called on the Osun State Government and security agencies to investigate the killings and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice through lawful and peaceful processes.

The senator stressed that seeking justice should not become a reason for further tension or violence, urging all sides to put political differences aside.

He said he would continue to pursue justice for the victims while encouraging his supporters and other citizens to avoid actions capable of worsening tensions in the state.

The statement was signed by Senator Adenigba Fadahunsi, OFR.
