A fresh controversy has trailed the founder of Heaven’s Gateway Ministries, Apostle Chikere Nwafor, following allegations by her ex-husband that she shipped her car from the United Kingdom to Nigeria and falsely declared it stolen to an insurance company.
The allegation was detailed in a report by SaharaReporters, in which the ex-husband, Martin Ogbulu, accused the cleric of misleading both him and her UK insurers over the whereabouts of the vehicle.
According to Martin, the incident began when the car, usually parked in a designated space in the UK, suddenly disappeared. He said Chikere told him at the time that her cousins had borrowed the car for a family function.
Martin said his suspicion was raised weeks later when Chikere allegedly called him in panic, asking him to assist her as her insurance company was about to contact him.
“She told me she had already reported the car stolen,” he said.
He explained that when the insurance company called to confirm the car’s location, he told them he had not seen the vehicle. SaharaReporters reported that the insurance firm later paid Chikere close to £17,000.
Martin further alleged that the car, identified as a Lexus RX450h, was never stolen but deliberately shipped to Nigeria.
“The car didn’t disappear. It was moved,” he said, claiming he has photographs showing the vehicle in the UK before it was later seen in Nigeria.
As of the time of filing this report, Apostle Chikere has not responded to the car and insurance claim allegation, despite repeated attempts by SaharaReporters to reach her for comments.
However, in a related development, Legit.ng recently reported that the cleric had broken her silence on a separate controversy involving a viral audio and video linked to her failed marriage.
In that response, Apostle Chikere dismissed claims made against her in the leaked recording, describing them as false and malicious. She alleged that she suffered abuse during the marriage and said her decision to leave was based on personal safety and dignity.
She did not, however, address the allegations concerning the alleged shipment of the vehicle or the insurance payout.
SaharaReporters also recalled a previous allegation involving the arrest and continued detention of a church caretaker, Alfred Morris Oyawari, over missing building materials — a case the ex-husband claimed reflected abuse of influence.
The cleric is yet to publicly react to the latest allegations.
