Seventy years of courage and service…
Rt. Hon. Dr. Adewale Albert Omirin, JP, former Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly and Oluomo of Aisegba-Ekiti, marks a milestone today, January 19, 2026, as he joins the league of septuagenarians. Turning 70, he celebrates a life devoted to healing, leadership, and unwavering dedication to his people. From his humble beginnings as a village boy in Aisegba-Ekiti to becoming one of the state’s most respected leaders, Dr. Omirin’s journey is a testament to resilience, integrity, and service that continues to inspire generations.

HIS EARLY LIFE AND EDUCATION

Born in 1956 to Chief Opeyemi Gabriel Omirin and Mrs. Bosede Rhode Omirin, both of blessed memory, Dr. Omirin faced life’s first great trial when he lost his mother at the age of four. Reflecting on this period, he said:
“Losing my mother so early was like losing the light that guided my childhood. But in that darkness, God taught me strength, self-reliance, and compassion for others.”

His education began at Holy Trinity Primary School, Aisegba-Ekiti (1962–1968), continued at St. Jude’s Modern School (1969–1972), and culminated at Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure (1972–1976). Those who knew him in his youth describe him as disciplined, reflective, and focused—a young man destined for meaningful service.

EARLY CAREER AND THE CALL TO MEDICINE

Before fully pursuing medicine, Dr. Omirin worked across several federal institutions, including the Federal Ministry of Works (Survey Department), the Federal Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Meteorological Training School, FRCN (Transmitting Station), and WELCOME Nigeria Limited. On these experiences, he said:
“Every phase of my early career was a classroom. I learned punctuality from aviation, precision from surveying, communication from broadcasting, and patience from working with people.”

In 1980, he answered the call to medicine at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, graduating in 1986. His housemanship took place at the State Specialist Hospital, Ado-Ekiti (1986–1987), followed by service as Medical Officer II at Idanre General Hospital (1988–1996). Following the creation of Ekiti State, he continued his work at the State Hospital, Ayede-Ekiti, also completing specialized training in Family Planning and Train-the-Trainer programs at University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.

HIS POLITICAL JOURNEY

In 1998, Dr. Omirin retired from government service to extend his service beyond the hospital. He joined the Alliance for Democracy (AD) and became a member of the party’s Convention Committee in Ekiti State. Though he narrowly lost a primary election in 2003 by a single vote, he was soon appointed Ekiti State Liaison Officer in Abuja, a role he executed with distinction.

In 2011, he successfully contested for the House of Assembly seat, running unopposed. He was elected Speaker of the Fourth Ekiti State House of Assembly, serving under the administration of Dr. Kayode Fayemi. His colleagues also elected him Vice Chairman, Conference of Speakers, South-West Zone, consolidating his influence regionally.

TRIALS, COURAGE, AND FAITH

Dr. Omirin’s tenure was not without challenges. A change in administration brought political hostilities, leading to his removal and that of some colleagues seven months before the end of their tenure. Despite intimidation and threats to his life, he remained resolute.

“True leadership is not about titles, but about standing firm for truth, even when it costs you everything,” he once said.

NATIONAL APPOINTMENTS AND CONTINUED SERVICE

Recognized for his integrity and leadership, Dr. Omirin was appointed to several national boards: Member, Governing Board, Waziri Ibrahim Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi, Chairman, Governing Board, Lake Chad Research Institute, Maiduguri and Board Member, Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN).

He continues to serve as Chief Medical Director of his private hospital, mentoring younger medical professionals and giving back to the community.

FAMILY, HONOURS, AND LEGACY

Dr. Omirin is married to Mrs. Chioma Omirin, and together they have children who embody the values of hard work, humility, and service. His accolades include Justice of the Peace (JP), Ekiti State Oral Health Ambassador, Best Speaker Award, Ekiti State Environmental Ambassador, and the traditional title of Oluomo of Aisegba-Ekiti.

Away from professional life, he enjoys reading and traveling, believing these activities broaden perspectives and deepen wisdom.

As he celebrates 70 years today, January 19, 2026, Dr. Omirin is remembered not for titles but for a life lived in service, integrity, and faith—an inspiring journey that continues to impact Ekiti State and Nigeria at large.
