CREDICORP LAUNCHES 10,000 WOMEN IN MOBILITY SCHEME TO BOOST ECONOMIC INCLUSION

The Federal Government has launched the 10,000 Women in Mobility Scheme, an initiative designed to empower women across Nigeria with access to mobility assets and expand their participation in the transport and logistics sector.

The programme, rolled out through the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP), will provide vehicles, tricycles (Keke), and motorcycles to 10,000 women across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, aimed at enhancing economic inclusion, financial independence and access to consumer credit.

Speaking at the launch in Abuja on Friday, Minister of Women’s Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, said the initiative was a deliberate effort by the Federal Government to create sustainable economic opportunities for women while strengthening their creditworthiness.

She disclosed that the Abuja pilot phase had already delivered mobility assets to 1,000 women, adding that the programme would now be expanded nationwide.

“This programme reflects the Federal Government’s resolve to dismantle structural barriers limiting women’s participation in key sectors of the economy. By empowering women with productive assets, we are enabling sustainable livelihoods and building credible financial histories that unlock future access to credit,” she said.

The minister praised the Managing Director of CREDICORP, Engr. Uzoma Nwagba, for championing inclusive consumer credit initiatives that translate policy into tangible economic outcomes for women.

“Women make up over 50 per cent of Nigeria’s population and contribute across sectors. Strengthening their participation creates value not just for families, but for the nation as a whole,” Sulaiman-Ibrahim added.

Earlier, Nwagba described the programme as a practical step toward deepening Nigeria’s consumer credit ecosystem and expanding financial inclusion. He said CREDICORP is partnering with relevant stakeholders to integrate financing, asset supply, training and business support to ensure beneficiaries succeed beyond accessing credit.

“This initiative is not just about giving out assets; it is about empowering women to build viable mobility businesses and sustainable income streams,” he said.

In separate goodwill messages, the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha; Director-General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), Oluwemimo Osanipin; and National President of the National Council for Women Societies (NCWS), Princess Edna Azura, described the scheme as timely and impactful.

They noted that the programme aligns with national priorities on gender inclusion, decent work and industrial growth, while urging beneficiaries to utilise the opportunity responsibly.

Some beneficiaries, including Jemila Abdulkadir, Christiana Michael, Maryam Adamu, Sakinat Lawan and Maryam Abawu, expressed gratitude to the Federal Government and CREDICORP, describing the scheme as life-changing.

They said the initiative would enable them to achieve financial independence, support their families and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s economy, pledging to adhere strictly to repayment terms.
