The Ondo State chapter of the Nigerian Legion has inaugurated a new set of executive members to steer the affairs of the organization, with Retired Major Folorunso Akingboju emerging as Chairman and Warrant Officer Banjo Alabi Stephen as Vice Chairman.
The inauguration, held in Akure, brought together Area Council Chairmen from all 18 local government areas of the state, alongside dignitaries from the state and federal levels.
Representing the Minister of Defence at the event, Mr. Atibeere Samuel commended the peaceful and transparent conduct of the election process, describing it as a model of discipline and orderliness befitting retired service personnel. He applauded the Ondo State Government for its continued support of the legion and urged the new leadership to be proactive and purposeful in the discharge of their duties.
In his address, Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Seun Osamaye, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of ex-servicemen and the general well-being of citizens across the state.
Governor Aiyedatiwa highlighted his government’s achievements in infrastructure development, healthcare delivery, education, women empowerment, and social welfare, noting that special attention has been given to children, the elderly, and vulnerable groups in the state.
The governor also commended the outgoing Chairman, Colonel Olu Apata (rtd), for his leadership and dedication, describing the peaceful transition of power as a testament to unity and discipline within the legion.
He expressed confidence in the capacity of the new leadership team, urging them to work together in the spirit of unity to foster growth, empower members, and uphold the values of patriotism and service.
“This administration will continue to prioritize the welfare of our legionnaires and ensure they receive the honour and care they truly deserve,” Aiyedatiwa said.
In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman, Retired Major Folorunso Akingboju, thanked the state government for its unwavering support and promised to uphold transparency, accountability, and unity within the organization.
He also expressed appreciation to Governor Aiyedatiwa, Dr. Seun Osamaye, and the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development for their continued partnership and encouragement.
Among those present were the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Bishop Odusola, ministry directors, the outgoing executive members, women political leaders, and members of the Nigerian Legion across the state.
