Over 250,000 Nigerian women have so far registered for the newly launched EmpowerHER Financial Literacy Programme, a flagship initiative of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs designed to strengthen women’s financial, digital, and entrepreneurial capabilities nationwide.
The programme, led by the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Dr. Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, marks a major milestone in the federal government’s efforts to advance women’s economic empowerment and inclusive participation in national development.
Developed in partnership with Kudimata Nigeria Ltd, a leading financial literacy and empowerment organization, the initiative provides the digital framework, technical content, and nationwide delivery infrastructure for the training.
Speaking at the official launch in Abuja, Dr. Sulaiman-Ibrahim described EmpowerHER as “a cornerstone of national transformation that places knowledge and financial capability at the centre of empowerment.”
She explained that the programme aims to empower millions of Nigerian women through practical financial education, digital literacy, and entrepreneurship development — key tools for building sustainable livelihoods and long-term economic independence.
“With EmpowerHER, we are laying the foundation for a financially literate and economically empowered generation of Nigerian women — one that will strengthen families, communities, and our nation,”the Minister stated.
Dr. Sulaiman-Ibrahim emphasized that financial literacy is the first step toward empowerment, noting that when women understand how to manage and grow resources, they can make informed decisions, lead enterprises, and shape the economy.
She also announced that financial and digital literacy would now form the foundational layer of all empowerment initiatives under the Ministry — ensuring sustainability, transparency, and measurable impact — in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Social Impact Interventions 774 Agenda.
In her remarks, Kathleen Erhimu, Chief Executive Officer of Kudimata Nigeria Ltd, said the partnership is more than a project — it is “a national movement to ensure that every Nigerian woman, whether behind a desk, in a market, on a farm, or leading an enterprise, has the knowledge, access, and confidence to grow wealth and shape her destiny.”
The EmpowerHER Programme is accessible through the Happy Woman Platform, a digital ecosystem that provides Nigerian women with a comprehensive empowerment framework including:
- Financial and digital literacy courses
- Entrepreneurship and business development training
- Access to finance and credit
- Mentorship and peer learning opportunities
- Linkages to empowerment and opportunity networks
Anchored on the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu, the programme targets 10 million Nigerian women by 2030 to become financially literate and economically empowered, reaching both digital and community-based participants nationwide.
“From the classroom to the marketplace, from the civil service to entrepreneurship, every Nigerian woman deserves to be equipped to move from survival to thriving,”Dr. Sulaiman-Ibrahim affirmed.
She further noted that the EmpowerHER initiative is not just about financial skills, but about building a generation of informed, equipped, and unstoppable Nigerian women who will drive inclusive economic growth across all sectors.
