PRESIDENT TINUBU FLAGS OFF RENEWED HOPE WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME IN DELTA

In a strong affirmation of the Federal Government’s commitment to inclusive growth and gender equity, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, officially launched the Renewed Hope Women’s Empowerment Programme in Delta State.

The minister described the initiative as a central pillar of the Renewed Hope Agenda, focused on empowering Nigerian women socially, economically, and politically. She commended Delta State for its progressive stance on gender inclusion, particularly the efforts of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in promoting female representation in the National and State Assemblies.

“This programme marks not just a moment, but a movement,” Sulaiman-Ibrahim said. “We are not here to give charity, but to catalyze empowerment. The women of Delta State will no longer stand at the margins—they will lead.”

The event witnessed the distribution of food and non-food items to vulnerable women and families, aimed at boosting household economic resilience. A standout feature was the unveiling of Solar Home Power Systems, described by the minister as “bridges to opportunity,” offering safe, clean, and reliable energy for households and microenterprises.

She also spotlighted key nationwide initiatives under the ministry:

  • PowerHer 774 Project – targeting 3 million women with clean energy skills and tools;
  • Nigeria for Women Project – Scale Up (NFWP-SU) – a World Bank-supported program aiming to reach 5 million women;
  • The Happy Woman App – a digital platform providing access to empowerment programs, funding, and market access;
  • Advocacy for the Political Representation and Seat Reservation for Women Bill (HB.1349).

Representing Governor Oborevwori, Deputy Governor Sir Monday John Onyeme reaffirmed the state’s alignment with the Renewed Hope vision and pledged Delta’s continued collaboration with the Ministry of Women Affairs.

Hon. Princess Pat Ajudua, Delta State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Community and Social Development, stressed that the programme is not merely about distributing items, but about forging partnerships to end gender-based violence and expand economic opportunity.

She praised the minister’s passion and urged beneficiaries to make full use of the tools provided as stepping stones toward sustainable livelihoods.

The minister closed with a resounding call to action: “When a woman is empowered with economic assets, she changes her household. When she is given a voice in leadership, she transforms her community. Let us rise together—women of Delta, women of Nigeria.”

The event ended on a celebratory note, as women expressed joy and gratitude to President Tinubu and the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for their commitment to women’s advancement and family empowerment.
