The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Lagos State Chapter, on Monday, welcomed Mrs. Toyin Adewale-Gabriel, the FHI 360 Alive and Thrive Project Coordinator from Abuja, during a special visit to the NAWOJ Lagos Daycare Centre located at the Radio Lagos Office Complex, off Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos.
Mrs. Adewale-Gabriel was accompanied by Mr. Adeniyi Adeyanju, Executive Secretary of the Network of Entrepreneurial Women (NNEW), a key partner in the establishment of the daycare centre. The visit formed part of an assessment tour of creches supported by NNEW under the Alive and Thrive initiative, which aims to promote workplace breastfeeding support and enhance the well-being of working mothers.
The visit featured a guided tour of the daycare facility, where Mrs. Adewale-Gabriel commended the exceptional leadership of the Lagos NAWOJ Executives led by Chairperson, Dr. Mrs. Adeola Ekine. She described the NAWOJ Lagos Daycare as “a model of sustainability and commitment” to maternal and child welfare within the media industry.
“It is heartwarming to see that a project which began in 2021 has not only remained operational but has evolved into a beacon of hope and support for breastfeeding mothers. The dedication of Dr. Adeola Ekine and her team is truly commendable,” said Mrs. Adewale-Gabriel.
She highlighted how the initiative perfectly aligns with Alive and Thrive’s mission to improve infant and maternal nutrition through supportive workplace systems, citing NAWOJ Lagos as a practical example of impact-driven intervention.
In her response, Dr. Adeola Ekine expressed appreciation for the visit and the ongoing support from NNEW and FHI 360. She reaffirmed NAWOJ Lagos’ commitment to promoting a healthy work-life balance for women and called for more collaborative efforts to replicate such daycare models across the state.
Mr. Adeniyi Adeyanju, in his remarks, praised the innovation and resilience demonstrated by NAWOJ Lagos in sustaining the project beyond its pilot phase. He emphasized that institutional commitment and visionary leadership are essential drivers of sustainable development initiatives.
Since its inception in 2021, the NAWOJ Lagos Daycare Centre has served numerous breastfeeding mothers working in nearby media houses and organizations, enabling them to remain productive while nurturing their infants in a safe and professional setting.
The visit concluded with a renewed commitment by all stakeholders to continue championing inclusive, supportive, and family-friendly workplace environments for women across various sectors.
