HOW SENATOR AKPABIO DEFECTS SENATOR YARI TO EMERGE THE 10TH SENATE PRESIDENT


Senator Godswill Akpabio representing Akwa Ibom North/West senatorial district has been elected as the 10th senate president of the National Assembly.

The former Governor of Akwa Ibom state and Minister for Niger Delta defeated his closest rival, Senator Yari from Zamfara state. The Senate President pull 63 votes leaving his rival with 46 votes.

Before the Senate presidential election, former Governor Akpabio was the preferred candidate of the All Progressives Congress, and he was paired with the senator representing Kano South, Jibrin Barau, who emerged as the Deputy Senate President.

The pronouncement by the Clerk declaring Akpabio as the Senate President having garnered 63 votes leaving his rival with 46 votes Came after a quick recess.

The senator-elect for Borno South, Ali Ndume, nominated Godswill Akpabio, senator-elect for Akwa Ibom North-East, as president of the Senate. Akpabio accepted the nomination. While Elisha Abbo, senator-elect for Adamawa North, nominated Abdulaziz Yari, senator-elect for Zamfara West.

The lawmakers cast their votes in alphabetical order, two representatives of each team came to count their votes.

Senators Adeola Solomon and Ndume came out to represent Senator Akpabio, while Abbo and the senator-elect representing Ondo South Senatorial District, Jimoh Ibrahim, represented Senator Yari.
