... The recognition forms part of the newspaper’s Nigeria @ 66 initiative celebrating private-sector leadership and contributions to national development.
The Guardian Newspaper has named James Ukachukwu, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of BOCA Energy Resources Limited, BOCA Integrated Services Limited and Seispace Geosciences Limited, among 66 Nigerian business leaders featured in its special Nigeria @ 66 showcase.
The recognition, communicated in a letter dated October 14, 2026, is part of the newspaper’s initiative, Nigeria @ 66: Celebrating Sixty-Six Most Inspiring and Award-Winning Business Leaders, which seeks to highlight individuals whose achievements and contributions to the private sector deserve wider recognition.
The development was announced by Alfred Abiodun, Head of Media and Publicity for the BOCA Group.
In the correspondence signed by Taiwo Ricketts, Head of Adverts and Special Projects at The Guardian, the newspaper explained that the initiative was designed to draw attention to exemplary Nigerian business leaders whose accomplishments are sometimes overlooked, particularly by international audiences and younger generations.
The publication noted that the actions of a few individuals could create negative perceptions about Nigerian leadership, overshadowing the contributions of people who have demonstrated integrity, character and notable achievements in their respective fields.
Ukachukwu’s inclusion brings attention to his leadership of the BOCA Group, whose businesses operate across the energy and related technical services sectors.
BOCA Energy Resources Limited describes itself as an indigenous Nigerian company providing engineering, procurement, construction and project management services to the oil, gas and energy industries.
Its service areas include engineering and procurement, construction and fabrication, pipeline and flowline installation, specialised oilfield services, supply-chain solutions, as well as geotechnical and geophysical services.
The company identifies safety, quality, integrity, technological innovation and sustainability as key elements of its business philosophy.
The recognition also comes amid the continuing need to strengthen indigenous participation and technical capacity in Nigeria’s energy industry. Local companies play roles in providing specialised services, developing expertise and supporting activities across the sector.
In 2026, BOCA Energy Resources Limited was listed among the sponsors of the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists’ 44th Annual International Conference and Exhibition, scheduled for November 8 to 12 at Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos. The conference is expected to focus on exploration, local capabilities and adaptive technology.
Ukachukwu was also named Energy Man of the Year at the 2026 Momentous Magazine Personality Awards, according to a report published by Standard Times NG in October.
Reacting to the latest recognition, Abiodun described the acknowledgement by The Guardian as an important moment for the Group and its leadership.
He said the recognition offered an opportunity to draw greater attention to the work of indigenous business leaders and companies contributing to Nigeria’s private-sector development.
Abiodun also highlighted the importance of communicating positive stories about Nigerian enterprise and professional accomplishment, particularly to younger people seeking examples of leadership and business growth.
For the BOCA Group, the recognition is also an opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of its employees, technical professionals, management teams, partners, clients and other stakeholders.
As Nigeria marks 66 years of independence, The Guardian’s initiative provides a platform for drawing attention to business leaders and organisations involved in economic activity and private-sector development.
Ukachukwu’s inclusion places him among the individuals selected for the newspaper’s showcase, while bringing renewed visibility to the BOCA Group and its activities in Nigeria’s energy and technical services industries.
