... Bank partners Nigerian Conservation Foundation to advance environmental conservation and community development
Polaris Bank has strengthened its environmental sustainability drive with a tree-planting exercise at the Lekki Conservation Centre in Lagos, in collaboration with the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF).
The exercise, held on Monday, October 12, 2026, forms part of the bank’s nationwide tree-planting initiative launched in 2024 to promote climate action, environmental conservation and sustainable community development.
According to the bank, the programme has recorded the planting of 10,000 trees across 16 locations in the Federal Capital Territory and 13 states across Nigeria since its launch.
Speaking at the exercise, Abimbola Ozomah, Executive Director, Corporate and Investment Banking at Polaris Bank, said sustainability remained a guiding principle for the institution’s operations and community engagement.
“At Polaris Bank, sustainability is not a slogan, it is a principle that guides our daily actions. It is about transforming bold commitments into measurable impact,” Ozomah said.
She added that the trees represented opportunities to support communities, restore degraded land and strengthen livelihoods.
Ozomah said the partnership with NCF at the Lekki Conservation Centre marked another step in the bank’s sustainability programme, noting that planting economic trees could deliver benefits beyond climate action.
According to her, the trees could help improve soil fertility, increase vegetation cover and create potential income opportunities for communities as they mature.
She also stressed the importance of collective responsibility in environmental protection, saying employees, partners and other stakeholders had roles to play in advancing conservation efforts.
“The power of small actions, when multiplied, creates extraordinary change,” she said, urging participants to nurture the seedlings and sustain their commitment to environmental responsibility.
The exercise reflects the bank’s broader approach to supporting environmental initiatives linked to climate resilience, ecological restoration and community development.
Through its nationwide tree-planting programme and collaboration with organisations such as NCF, Polaris Bank said it would continue to promote practical action towards protecting the environment and supporting a more sustainable future.
