Fidelity Bank Plc has distributed more than 2,000 food packs to residents of Abeokuta, Ogun State, as part of its ongoing efforts to support vulnerable households and contribute to food security across Nigeria.
The donation was made through the bank's Fidelity Food Bank Initiative, with the latest distribution taking place at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Cathedral, Itesi, Adatan, Abeokuta.
The initiative is part of Fidelity Bank's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme and is focused on providing food assistance to vulnerable members of communities while supporting broader efforts to tackle hunger.
Speaking during the distribution exercise, Folaranmi Jemirin, Regional Bank Head, South West 1, Fidelity Bank Plc, said the bank had distributed more than 300,000 food packs across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones since the Fidelity Food Bank Initiative was launched in 2023.
He said the programme supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2, which focuses on Zero Hunger, while reflecting Fidelity Bank's commitment to improving the wellbeing of communities where it operates.
“At Fidelity Bank, we remain committed to implementing Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives that improve the living conditions of our host communities and contribute to sustainable development.”
Jemirin said the bank's intervention in Abeokuta goes beyond food distribution, noting that Fidelity Bank has also supported initiatives covering education, youth rehabilitation, women's economic empowerment and social welfare.
He described the food distribution as an intervention aimed at restoring hope and providing practical support to families facing economic challenges.
Catholic Diocese receives Fidelity Bank donation
Receiving the food packs on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Cathedral Administrator, Rev. Fr. Dominic Olagbaju, expressed appreciation to Fidelity Bank for extending the initiative to the Abeokuta community.
He described the donation as a demonstration of the bank's commitment to supporting vulnerable people and strengthening communities.
Also present at the distribution were Team Lead, Corporate Social Responsibility, Fidelity Bank Plc, Victoria Abuka; Fidelity Food Bank Partner, Rev. Fr. Michael Domingo; and Branch Leader, Fidelity Bank Plc, Sagamu, Titilola Odede.
Fidelity Food Bank reaches communities across Nigeria
Launched in 2023, the Fidelity Food Bank Initiative has become one of the bank's major community-focused interventions, providing food support to vulnerable households across different parts of Nigeria.
The programme operates through partnerships with religious institutions, community organisations and other stakeholders to reach beneficiaries at the grassroots.
For Fidelity Bank, the initiative represents part of its broader commitment to supporting inclusive development and improving the quality of life in its host communities.
The latest intervention in Abeokuta comes as food security and the rising cost of living remain major concerns for households across Nigeria.
Through the continued expansion of the Fidelity Food Bank Initiative, the bank says it intends to provide relief to more vulnerable Nigerians while supporting community development and social wellbeing.
