The screening committee of All Progressives Congress has disqualified Wole Oke from participating in the party’s primary election for the Obokun-Oriade Federal Constituency in Osun State.
Oke, a long-serving member of the House of Representatives, was reportedly screened out by the APC panel after appearing before the committee in Abuja on Wednesday, bringing a major setback to his bid for another term in the National Assembly.
The federal lawmaker has represented the Obokun-Oriade Federal Constituency for 24 uninterrupted years, making him one of the longest-serving lawmakers in Nigeria’s democratic history. His exit from the APC primary race effectively halts his ambition to secure an eighth consecutive term in the Green Chamber.
Political observers say the development could reshape the political landscape in Obokun and Oriade federal constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections, as new contenders are expected to emerge within the ruling party.
Over the years, Oke built a reputation as one of the influential voices from Osun State in the National Assembly, ranking among veteran lawmakers such as Ali Ndume who have spent decades in federal legislative service.
The APC is currently conducting screenings and consultations ahead of its primary elections across the country, with several aspirants contesting for tickets into the National Assembly and other elective offices.
