AIRTEL AFRICA FOUNDATION OPENS APPLICATIONS FOR ‘DIGILEAP’ TECH TRAINING FOR YOUNG WOMEN

The Airtel Africa Foundation, in collaboration with Airtel Nigeria, has announced the opening of applications for its DigiLeap Tech Drive, a flagship initiative aimed at advancing digital inclusion among young women.

The application portal, which opened this week, will close on May 8, 2026.

Targeting 200 underserved young women in Ikorodu Local Government Area of Lagos State, the programme seeks to bridge the gender gap in the digital economy by offering intensive, industry-standard training in technology and digital literacy at no cost to participants.

The DigiLeap Tech Drive is being implemented through a strategic partnership involving the Airtel Africa Foundation, ISHK Tolaram Foundation, and Co-Creation Hub, with execution led by the SAIL Innovation Lab, a recognised hub for digital talent development.

Designed to equip participants with job-ready skills, the programme will provide technical training, mentorship opportunities, and job placement support, addressing both youth unemployment and the underrepresentation of women in the technology sector.

Speaking on the initiative, Chairman of the Airtel Africa Foundation, Segun Ogunsanya, emphasised the broader vision behind the programme.

“Our mission is to accelerate digital inclusion across Africa. Through DigiLeap, we are not only training young women but creating a structured pathway into internships and sustainable careers in technology,” he said.

Also speaking, Chief Executive Officer of Airtel Nigeria, Dinesh Balsingh, highlighted the importance of empowering women within the digital economy.

“Empowering women with digital skills is essential to national economic growth. This initiative ensures that young women in underserved communities can actively participate in and contribute to the evolving tech ecosystem,” he stated.

The programme focuses on building competencies that enhance employability and entrepreneurial capacity, positioning participants for opportunities within Nigeria’s fast-growing digital sector.

Eligible applicants must be women aged 18–35 residing in Ikorodu and can apply through the official portal: bit.ly/DigiLeap.
