2027: OMOLE RALLIES APC SUPPORTERS, CITES LOYALTY, GRASSROOTS IMPACT IN ONDO ASSEMBLY BID

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress and aspirant for the Ondo State House of Assembly, Olugbenga Omole, has intensified his campaign for Akoko South West Constituency I, urging party leaders and members to prioritise loyalty, competence, and proven track record in the selection of candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking during an engagement with party stakeholders and supporters in Oka Akoko, Omole anchored his aspiration on what he described as years of consistent commitment to the growth of the party and the development of the constituency.

According to him, political leadership should be defined not by rhetoric or momentary popularity, but by a demonstrable history of sacrifice and service.

Reflecting on the evolution of the party in Ondo State, Omole recalled his involvement during the formative years of the progressive movement, particularly the 2011 elections under the then Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). He noted that at a time when the party struggled for dominance, Akoko South West stood out as one of the few strongholds that delivered electoral victories.

“In 2011, when the political environment was not favourable, we stood firm and delivered results for our party. That history is a testament to our resilience and commitment,” he said.

The aspirant also revisited key political moments in the state, including the impeachment crisis that tested democratic institutions, stating that he played an active role in defending the party’s interests and mobilising support across media platforms and grassroots structures.

He warned against what he described as the imposition of candidates, referencing past electoral experiences which, according to him, alienated the people and weakened party cohesion.

“We must avoid repeating past mistakes where candidates were imposed without grassroots connection. Representation must reflect the will and trust of the people,” Omole added.

Highlighting his contributions beyond politics, the aspirant pointed to his investments in youth and community development. He disclosed that since 2018, he has supported grassroots football initiatives in Oka Akoko, including the provision of kits to over 100 young players and facilitating the presence of international scouts to identify local talent.

Omole also cited his intervention during a communal dispute involving farmers in Supare, noting that his direct engagement helped to peacefully resolve the crisis without escalation.

“These are practical examples of leadership—being present, taking responsibility, and delivering solutions when it matters most,” he stated.

The APC chieftain further emphasised his experience in both executive and legislative processes, describing it as a critical advantage that positions him to effectively represent the constituency at the state assembly.

He also referenced his recent recognition by the Nigeria Football Federation as validation of his contributions to grassroots sports development.

On economic empowerment, Omole revealed that his community-focused initiative, the Oka Akoko Community Support Fund, would continue to expand, with a second phase planned before the end of the year to support market women and small-scale entrepreneurs.

As the political season gradually gains momentum, Omole called on party stakeholders to remain guided by principles of fairness, inclusiveness, and merit in the selection process.

“I am not seeking support based on entitlement. I am seeking support based on work done, structures built, and relationships sustained over time,” he said.

He reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening party unity and delivering effective representation if elected, stressing that the future of Akoko South West depends on credible and people-oriented leadership.

Political observers note that the contest for the Akoko South West Constituency I seat is expected to intensify in the coming months, with aspirants leveraging grassroots engagement and party loyalty as key campaign pillars.
