President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, capped his landmark state visit to the United Kingdom with a high-profile reception at Tate Modern, spotlighting Nigeria’s rich artistic heritage through the “Nigerian Modernism” exhibition.

The event, attended by Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy MP, diplomats, business leaders, and members of the Nigerian diaspora, was more than a ceremonial closing—it was a statement of cultural pride, influence, and global relevance.

President Tinubu celebrated the mid-20th century generation of Nigerian artists who redefined national identity through modernist expression, asserting Nigeria’s creative voice on a global scale.

“It is a profound honour to witness the soul of Nigeria on display,” he said. “These works show a people who have fused global techniques with the enduring rhythms of our heritage.”

The exhibition was made possible through the strategic support of Access Holdings PLC and Coronation Group, whose collaboration underscores the growing role of creative industries as instruments of cultural diplomacy and economic growth.

President Tinubu emphasized that Nigeria’s arts, music, film, and literature are not just exports—they are powerful tools of influence, bridging cultures and opening global conversations.

For diaspora Nigerians, the reception was a reminder of resilience, innovation, and the pioneering spirit embedded in their heritage.

“You come from a lineage of pioneers… the ability to innovate, adapt, and lead,” the President urged attendees.

The event also reinforced the enduring Nigeria-UK partnership, highlighting opportunities in culture, commerce, and creativity.

With the Tate Modern standing as a backdrop, President Tinubu’s visit concluded on a note of strategic cultural assertion, positioning Nigeria at the intersection of heritage, global influence, and modern ambition.

A historic visit, concluded with historic art, historic pride.
