GLOBACOM ACQUIRES ADDITIONAL SPECTRUM, BOOSTS DATA SPEED AND ELIMINATES CONGESTION NATIONWIDE

Globacom has announced extensive upgrades to its network infrastructure following major spectrum acquisitions and expanded data capacity aimed at delivering faster internet speeds, wider coverage, and a congestion-free experience for subscribers across Nigeria.

The upgrades, which took effect on Thursday, December 4, 2025, form part of the company’s long-term strategy to build a future-ready communications network capable of supporting Nigeria’s fast-growing digital economy.

According to the telecommunications giant, the newly acquired spectrum has significantly strengthened Glo’s nationwide broadband performance. With increased spectrum resources, the network can now accommodate far higher volumes of data traffic at improved speeds, ensuring faster downloads, enhanced upload performance, smoother video streaming, and clearer voice calls even during peak periods.

Globacom explained that the advanced spectrum boost is being complemented by aggressive physical infrastructure expansion. Thousands of LTE sites installed this year are being reinforced, while hundreds of additional sites are currently under construction. Thousands more are scheduled for deployment over the next 12 months to deepen broadband penetration and improve indoor and outdoor connectivity across urban centres, towns and rural communities.

“These new network resources are not isolated improvements; they represent a nationwide transformation,” a company representative said. “Nigerians will now experience stronger coverage, higher speeds and consistent service quality everywhere they live, work or travel.”

To support its expanded network capacity, Glo also announced the reinforcement of its fibre-optic backbone along major national routes. By enhancing long-haul and metro fibre links, the company aims to boost data transport efficiency at the core of its network.

This development is further supported by upgrades to its backhaul systems, including advanced microwave technologies and extensive core network optimisation. According to the operator, these combined improvements will eliminate congestion nationwide—resulting in more stable browsing, clearer voice calls and smoother digital experiences for millions of users.

In line with global best practices, Globacom is also deepening its commitment to environmental sustainability through the deployment of hybrid battery power systems across numerous network sites. The greener solution reduces dependence on diesel generators, enhances network uptime and improves operational cost efficiency.

Reiterating its customer-first philosophy, another senior Glo official noted:

“Our promise is straightforward: world-class connectivity at pocket-friendly prices. Every Nigerian should have access to fast, reliable and affordable communications, and our network upgrade ensures exactly that.”

Globacom assured subscribers that they will continue to enjoy affordable data and voice tariffs, loyalty rewards, special packages tailored for youths and SMEs, and exclusive entertainment content via GloTV.

The company encouraged both existing and potential customers to take advantage of the newly enhanced network capacity, noting that the improvements will significantly empower education, business operations, entertainment, e-commerce, fintech, and digital innovation nationwide.

With stronger spectrum resources, broader coverage, faster speeds and the elimination of network congestion, Glo affirmed that these upgrades signal the beginning of a more advanced and reliable digital experience for Nigeria.
