The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), on Tuesday commissioned the newly constructed Aiyemojuba Street in the Onipetesi area, marking a key milestone in his administration’s 100 Working Days in Office.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dauda said the project aligns with his administration’s I.K.E.J.A Agenda, which prioritises roads, community development, education and health interventions.
“Aiyemojuba Street is more than a road project; it is the fulfillment of a long-standing promise to the people of Onipetesi,” he said.“This community endured years of abandonment, but today we have delivered a road built with durability and long-term benefit in mind.”
Dauda announced that the next project scheduled for commissioning is a pedestrian and community link bridge connecting the newly constructed Aiyemojuba Street to a second road leading into an adjoining community.
He disclosed that the council has already met with community leaders, concluded preliminary work, and paid 40 per cent of the contract sum to the contractor.
“This bridge is not a proposal; work has already begun,” the chairman said.“It will provide safe movement between both communities, end the risky highway crossing at Second Avenue, and support local economic activity.”
The Councillor representing Ward C, Hon. Obadeyi Saburi, praised the chairman for what he described as “breaking the yoke of over 40 years of infrastructural abandonment.”
He added that the bridge project would further boost commerce and ease movement within the area.
The event was attended by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Abisola Omisore; the Head of Administration, Mrs. Juliana Taiwo Odubeko; party leaders; the CDC Chairperson, Alhaja Folami; CDA leaders; and residents who trooped out to witness the commissioning.
Aiyemojuba Street is the second road delivered within AKOD’s 100 Working Days celebration. The chairman assured that more projects would be unveiled in the coming days as part of efforts to make Ikeja a model local government in Nigeria.“Better Days Are Here,” he said confidently.
