Sterling Bank, Africa’s most agile financial institution, has announced the launch of AlwaysOn by Sterling, a bold new feature on its digital banking platform, OneBank, that offers eligible customers up to ₦1 million extra every month—even when their account balances run low.
Unveiled on Workers’ Day 2025, AlwaysOn is part of Sterling’s commitment to dismantling financial barriers and equipping Nigerians with tools to navigate life’s demands boldly and confidently.
Designed as an exclusive, invitation-only feature, AlwaysOn is available to customers who maintain an active OneBank account over time. It provides an instant advance to settle bills or make urgent payments, bypassing the complexities of traditional loan systems.
“This isn’t just about access to funds,” said Abubakar Suleiman, CEO of Sterling Bank. “It’s about freedom, dignity, and backing our customers with the tools to take bold action—when it matters most.”
Suleiman emphasized that AlwaysOn is more than a product—it's a paradigm shift in how the bank supports Nigerians.
“We’re building a financial system designed for momentum—for people with grit, urgency, and dreams too big to wait. If you’ve banked with us, you’ve earned our trust. Now, you’ll have our backing to match.”
This initiative follows Sterling’s bold moves to democratize access to capital, including: The Zero Transfer Fees policy (April 2025), which returned an estimated ₦13 billion to customers. The Free Bus Ride program, launched to help thousands of commuters get home during a period of high economic pressure.
These efforts are powered by SeaBaas, Nigeria’s first indigenous core banking platform, underscoring Sterling’s dedication to a responsive, people-first financial system. “We’re not the kind of bank that stands on the sidelines while Nigerians hustle,” said Obinna Ukachukwu, Growth Executive for Retail and Consumer Banking.
“We removed fees that slowed them down. Now, we’re enabling financial freedom so they can seize opportunities. We’re on the pitch with them.”
Sterling’s customer advocacy has earned public acclaim and positioned the bank as a standard-bearer in corporate citizenship. Influencers, thought leaders, and citizens across sectors have commended the bank’s innovative approach to financial empowerment.
Interested customers can join the waitlist for AlwaysOn when it officially opens later this month. Eligibility for up to ₦1 million in relief advances will be determined based on account activity and engagement with the OneBank platform.
