Reports have emerged raising concerns over the wellbeing of Nigerian music legend, King Sunny Ade, following alarming claims made by one of his daughters, Damilola Adeniyi.
Taking to her Instagram page over the past two days, Damilola alleged that her father has effectively been "kidnapped" by his manager, identified simply as Dayo, along with Dayo’s mother, brothers — Demola and Kenny — and a driver named Ade.
According to Damilola, the manager and his associates have reportedly taken over King Sunny Ade’s affairs, forcing him to work under distress and denying him control over his finances.
"King Sunny Ade has been kidnapped," she posted. "The manager (Dayo) is the culprit, along with his mother, brothers (Demola and Kenny) and his driver Ade."
In another post, she accused the same individuals of financial exploitation, alleging that they have been stealing from the veteran musician. Damilola called on relevant authorities to intervene urgently.
“I want Dayo (manager) apprehended. I want him to provide all the money they have been stealing from him. He has a UK visa, thinking he can escape,” she wrote, using an emoji symbolizing someone fleeing.
She further claimed that the alleged exploitation has left King Sunny Ade burdened with unpaid hotel bills at lodgings arranged by the manager, reinforcing the notion that he no longer has autonomy over his finances.
As at the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from King Sunny Ade, his management, or law enforcement agencies regarding these allegations.
Efforts to reach the manager for a response have also been unsuccessful.
King Sunny Ade, an icon of Nigerian Juju music, remains a beloved figure nationally and internationally, making these allegations particularly disturbing for his fans and the wider public.
The situation continues to unfold.
