What was meant to be a joyous celebration took an unexpected turn on Friday, April 25, 2025, during the final burial ceremony of the late Pa Kelani Asabi Adebolu and Madam Sariyu Alaska Olaosepon Adebolu, held at Oke Agbede in Imeko Afon Local Government Area.
At the heart of the controversy was one of Nigeria’s finest and multi-talented singers, King Taiwo Alara, who was publicly humiliated by the celebrant of the day, Hon. Hammed Adeniyi Adebolu, popularly known as Sekere of Lagos. Sekere, the grandson of the deceased couple, shocked many guests with his unruly behaviour toward the artist.
Although the event was scheduled to commence at 1 p.m., it did not officially start until shortly after 2 p.m. Despite the delay, King Taiwo Alara — who was billed by Chief Mrs. Toyin Kolade, the Iyalaje Oodua, to perform at the event in support of the celebrant — maintained his composure. Although not the main musician of the day, Alara was allocated a mere 20-minute performance slot.
However, during his brief time on stage, the celebrant interrupted Alara’s performance — not once, but twice — without prior notice. In an unscheduled move, Sekere initiated a "Dorime" session, a tradition often reserved for after-parties. The first Dorime session forced Alara to pause for 10 minutes. Upon resuming, and barely 10 minutes into his performance, another Dorime interruption occurred, causing visible frustration for the artist.

Feeling disrespected, King Taiwo Alara and his band abruptly exited the stage. It took the intervention of HRM Oba Abdul-Fatai Akorede Akamo, The Olu of Itori Kingdom, Egbaland, along with other prominent guests, before the artist could be persuaded to return and continue his performance — albeit under a cloud of tension.
Eyewitnesses and guests expressed disappointment at the celebrant's conduct, with many questioning whether Sekere would have dared to treat top-tier, A-list musicians in the same manner.
In a brief chat with Event Diary Lifestyle, King Taiwo Alara lamented: "I had a show in Ijebu today, but I gave the event out to another artist just to honour my mother, Iyalaje Oodua, who invited me to perform at this event. After waiting for over two hours, we were given just 20 minutes — and even during that, we all saw what happened. It’s unfair."
Adding to the drama, after Alara’s impressive performance, his attempts to greet and appreciate the celebrant were rebuffed. According to observations, Sekere blatantly snubbed Alara’s efforts. Despite the cold reception, Alara displayed maturity by returning to the stage. As he (Alara) danced and sprayed Ramoni Akanni (a.k.a. Raymond King / Mr. Lecturer) with money — a gesture done out of respect for Iyalaje Oodua — he wrapped up his appearance before quietly leaving the venue for Lagos.
Further investigation by Event Diary Lifestyle revealed that Hon. Hammed Adeniyi Adebolu, aka Sekere of Lagos, is allegedly nurturing political ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections. However, his disdainful attitude toward media personalities and unruly conduct at public events may raise concerns about his preparedness for public office.
