…To Reward 131 Women with N11,000,000 in Cash Prizes, Among Other Activities

Further solidifying its position as a gender equality and inclusion-driven bank, Wema Bank, Nigeria's most innovative bank and the pioneer of Africa's first fully digital bank, ALAT, has announced its plans and unveiled the lineup of activities for Women’s Month – March 2025. Among the key events is the Wema Bank International Women's Day (IWD) 2025 celebration, scheduled to take place on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, in Lagos, Nigeria.

With the global IWD 2025 theme, "Accelerate Action," the Wema Bank IWD 2025 event will bring together prominent and influential women from key industries in Nigeria to discuss the topic:
"Harnessing Innovation & Technology to Accelerate Financial Inclusion for Women."
The discussion will focus on leveraging innovation and technology as a means to sustainably advance financial inclusion for women.

Beyond engaging discussions, the event will also feature the Big Sister Project of the Wema Women Network (WWN), where beneficiaries of the Bank's women-focused mentorship program will be recognized and celebrated. Additionally, the HeForShe Awards will honor male employees of Wema Bank who have made significant contributions to women's empowerment in the workplace, encouraging more men to become advocates for gender equality.

Wema Bank’s Commitment to Women’s Empowerment

Recognizing March as Women’s Month, Wema Bank has strategically curated a series of activities aimed at celebrating and rewarding women across Nigeria through exclusive experiences, financial incentives, and practical support for personal and professional success. These initiatives include:

  • The Wema Bank 5 for 5 Promo Season 4 Women’s Month Draw, where 131 women from the bank’s customer base will receive N11,000,000 in cash rewards.
  • The Wema Women Network (WWN) outreach initiative, designed to empower young female students at the secondary school level.
  • Several other impactful programs designed to foster women’s inclusion and success.

A Vision for the Future

Announcing the lineup of events, the Managing Director/CEO of Wema Bank, Mr. Moruf Oseni (FCIB), emphasized the bank’s dedication to women’s empowerment and the role of technology in driving sustainable impact. He stated:

"In a world that is increasingly becoming digital, no conversation on sustainable development can be productive without considering how solutions in this regard will thrive and remain relevant as the world continues to evolve. As Nigeria’s oldest indigenous and leading innovative bank, we are deeply rooted in the advocacy for empowerment while remaining remarkably forward-thinking. Our mission of empowering lives goes far beyond lip service."

"We recognize the existing gender gap and, as a pro-women bank, we continue to develop new and more efficient ways to accelerate action for women's empowerment. This is why we launched our women-focused proposition, SARA by Wema, and why we are intentional about creating opportunities for women in critical spaces while developing solutions that empower them to succeed personally and professionally."

"For IWD 2025, we are thinking beyond the present, as always, and looking far into the future to accelerate action for sustainable women’s empowerment by maximizing technology and innovation to amplify impact. With this forward-thinking approach, we have successfully provided over N50 billion in finance, disbursed $2.4 million in collaboration with the Islamic Development Finance under the BRAVE Women Project, and reached over 2 million women through various skills development, business support, and market access programs—all between 2019 and 2023. Imagine the progress that could be achieved in global women's empowerment if more institutions and individuals adopted the Wema approach. This vision has driven us for eight decades, and these are some of the critical discussions we will explore at the Wema Bank International Women's Day 2025 event."

Wema Bank’s Ongoing Advocacy for Gender Inclusion

International Women's Day (IWD) is a globally recognized celebration held annually on March 8, dedicated to celebrating women, raising awareness about gender equality, and driving action toward greater inclusion.

Wema Bank continues to champion women’s empowerment beyond IWD, demonstrating its commitment through consistent, impactful initiatives. By continuously raising the bar and challenging other institutions to actively contribute to gender inclusion, Wema Bank is setting the standard for meaningful, long-term change.

As the bank counts down to its 80th anniversary, the Wema Bank IWD 2025 event and Women’s Month activities will further reinforce its position as a financial institution deeply committed to creating lasting impact.
