Five years after the Supreme Court nullified the previous appointment, Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde has approved the appointment of Prince Adebayo Adegbola as the new Eleruwa of Eruwa.
The announcement was made in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade. According to the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Ademola Ojo, the stool of Eleruwa had remained vacant due to legal proceedings, culminating in the dismissal of Suit No. HER/10/23 by the High Court of Oyo State on October 22, 2024.
Hon. Ojo explained that the Laribikusi Ruling Quarters, which was expected to present candidates, failed to do so within the stipulated timeframe under Section 15(1) of the Chiefs Law Cap 28 of Oyo State. Consequently, the Akalako Ruling House was granted the right to nominate a candidate for the vacant throne.
Following a thorough selection process, the Kingmakers of Eruwa unanimously selected Prince Adebayo Adegbola as the sole candidate to ascend the prestigious stool.
Eruwa’s Throne Restored After Years of Legal Battle
The former Eleruwa of Eruwa, Oba Samuel Adebayo Adegbola, was installed in 1998 but was removed by the Supreme Court on November 29, 2019, following a protracted legal battle. Since then, the throne has remained vacant pending the resolution of legal disputes.
With this new appointment, Governor Makinde’s administration has now coronated 11 Kings and 40 Baales, marking a historic achievement in the governance of Yoruba traditional institutions.
Eruwa Indigenes Urged to Support the New Monarch
Hon. Ademola Ojo called on all sons and daughters of Eruwa to support their new monarch and foster peace and development in the community.
In a formal coronation ceremony held in Ibadan, Governor Seyi Makinde presented HRM, Oba Adebayo Adegbola with the staff of office and instruments of appointment, officially recognizing him as the new Eleruwa of Eruwa.
A New Era for Eruwa
With his official installation, Oba Adebayo Adegbola is expected to lead the town into a new era of progress, unity, and cultural preservation, bringing stability to the royal lineage of Eruwa after years of legal uncertainty.
