The House of Representatives deeply regrets to announce the passing of Rt. Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, who served as the Deputy Chief Whip and represented the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency of Ogun State. She passed away on January 15, 2025 in London after a brief illness.
Born on December 2, 1965, Hon. Onanuga was a committed leader, a tireless advocate for her constituents, and a remarkable public servant. She began her legislative journey in 2019, representing her constituency under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). During the 9th Assembly, she chaired the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development, where she led initiatives focused on empowering women and improving social welfare systems.In 2023, she was re-elected and elevated to the position of Deputy Chief Whip in the 10th Assembly, a role in which she provided outstanding leadership and upheld legislative discipline during plenary sessions.
Known affectionately as ‘Ijaya’, Hon. Onanuga’s dedication, humility, and relentless pursuit of excellence earned her respect and admiration from colleagues, constituents, and leaders across the country. Her tenure in public service was marked by her commitment to creating positive change and addressing societal challenges.
The House of Representatives extends its deepest sympathies to her family, friends, and associates, as well as the government and people of Ogun State, particularly those from the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North constituency. Her contributions to the development of the nation and her unwavering dedication to service will forever be remembered. Until her death, she was the Yeye Oba of Makun Kingdom, Sagamu, Ogun State.
Funeral arrangements will be shared by her family at a later date. As we mourn her passing, we honor her legacy and the profound impact she made during her time with us.
