Politics: Osun APC Expels Aregbesola Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities

The rift between Rauf Aregbesola’s Omoluabi caucus and the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reached its peak with the expulsion of the former Minister of Interior and ex-Osun State Governor over alleged anti-party activities.

A letter signed by Osun APC Chairman Tajudeen Lawal and Secretary Olabisi Kamoru accused Aregbesola of violating Article 21 of the party’s constitution, which outlines disciplinary measures for members.

Earlier, Aregbesola had endorsed a move by his loyalists to exit the APC during a meeting held in Ilesa on Sunday. The Omoluabi Progressives, led by Aregbesola, cited the party’s dwindling influence in the state as the reason for their departure.

In a letter titled “Allegations of Anti-Party Activities – Conveyance of State Exco Decision to You,” the APC leadership stated that after reviewing the findings of the Disciplinary Committee, the State Executive Committee (SEC) approved Aregbesola’s expulsion.

The letter partly reads: “The decision was based on clear evidence that your actions undermined the unity and integrity of the party. As a result, you are no longer a member of the APC and must refrain from representing or acting on behalf of the party in any capacity.”

The development marks a significant turning point in Osun APC’s internal crisis, with further political realignments expected in the coming days.
