OBASA’S REMOVAL: GROUP DEMANDS RELEASE OF DETAINED LAGOS LAWMAKERS

A socio-political group, United Action for Democracy, has called for the immediate release of lawmakers detained by the Department of State Services (DSS) in Lagos following the removal of former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the group demanded the freedom of Hon. Abiodun Tobun (Epe 1), Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu (Eti-Osa 2), Hon. Femi Saheed (Kosofe 2), Hon. Kehinde Joseph, and others, describing their detention as unjustified.

The development comes after Obasa held a press conference, arguing that his impeachment was unconstitutional. Meanwhile, on Monday, the Assembly reaffirmed Rt. Hon. Mojisola Meranda as Speaker.

The group has urged relevant authorities to intervene and ensure the lawmakers' immediate release, emphasizing that their continued detention is a threat to democratic principles.
