Following the demise of the late Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Jimoh Oyewumi Ajagungbade III, who spent over four decades on the throne on December 12, 2021, at the age of 95 the throne has been vacant.
The new Soun-elect was picked in March 2022 by the kingmakers.
A year after the submission of names for the stool of the 9th Soun of Ogbomoso, the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde officially approved the appointment of Prince Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye as the new Soun-elect of Ogbomosoland.
According to the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Olusegun Olayiwola said in a statement on Saturday that the announcement followed the long-drawn processes specified under the law.
The new Soun-elect has been picked by the kingmakers since over a year ago but the governor’s official confirmation was long awaited.
Until 1992 when he became a pastor under the denomination of the Redeemed Christian Church, Nigeria, Oba-elect Ghandi was an accomplished entrepreneur cum motivational speaker. He pastored for 30 years.
He was born to the royal family of Olaoye, one of the 5 royal families alongside the Oyewunmis and Ajagunlades in Ogbomoso. He had pastored 3 RCCG churches in Nigeria and also the RCCG Parish in Bonn, Germany.
