Oba Oliyere’s Wife, Olori Oluwaseyi Adako Empowers 100 Widows

The beneficiaries were presented with raw and cooked food items as well as other materials at a colourful event which also marked the inauguration of the OOOAF held at the Palace of Oliyere of Iyere kingdom on Wednesday.

Presenting the items to the beneficiaries, Olori Oluwaseyi Adako said the gesture was borne out of her resolution to always identify herself with widows and orphans in society.

The wife of Oliyere of Iyere kingdom, Oba Omotunde Adako who was overwhelmed with emotions said: “We are here today for the empowerment of the widows and to give them gifts and to make them happy as well as feel that they are not alone in the widowhood situation they found themselves.

“I am with them and I have them in my heart, love them and feel their pains. I also know what they are going through exactly.

“We have 100 beneficiaries, Ten beneficiaries from each quarter in the Iyere kingdom and they are all going to smile, dance and be joyful.

“I started doing this in 2013 and I have been doing it on my birthday in a very low key. I reach out to widows that I know are going through some pain and that are in terrible situations. I talk to them, encourage them and give them money.

Speaking on the sustainability of the foundation meant to cater for the widows, Olori Adako promised that the OOOAF would not relent on giving out to widows and other less privileged in the community, saying: “You know, this present Nigeria, if you ask for help, they will feel you want to embezzle money but that is not the case in our situation.

“But as I am doing it, in two or three years, if anybody feels he or she wants to support us, we will welcome such gesture to be partners in progress.

“People should know clearly that this is not politically motivated, it is a non-profitable, non-governmental Initiative. It is solely sponsored by myself.”

In his remarks, Oba Omotunde Adako had earlier commended his wife for showing unconditional love to widows and orphans in the kingdom, urging the beneficiaries to reciprocate the kind gesture with prayers for the royal family.

Reacting, some beneficiaries who appreciated the show of love on them, described Olori Adako’s gesture as unusual, adding that the empowerment would assist them to cater for families left behind by their late husbands.

The event was attended by dignitaries and community leaders at Iyere kingdom.

Highlights of the event were music rendition, and the cutting of the cake to celebrate Olori’s Birthday.
