Access Bank Plc has appointed Oluseyi Kumapayi as Deputy Managing Director, African Subsidiaries, and Olanrewaju Bamisebi as Executive Director, Information Technology and Digitalisation, as the bank strengthens its leadership structure and sharpens its focus on profitability and operational efficiency.
The appointments, approved by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), took effect on October 27 and October 28, 2026, respectively, according to a statement issued by Access Holdings Plc on October 31.
Kumapayi was elevated from his previous position as Executive Director, African Subsidiaries, while Bamisebi joins the board of Access Bank from Access Holdings, where he served as Executive Director, Information Technology and Digitalisation.
The changes form part of the group's strategic shift from expansion and scale towards improving profitability, capital efficiency, operational performance and shareholder returns.
In particular, Kumapayi's elevation reinforces the bank's focus on improving the performance of its African subsidiaries, while Bamisebi's appointment moves executive responsibility for technology and digitalisation directly into the leadership structure of its flagship banking subsidiary.
Kumapayi to strengthen African subsidiaries
Kumapayi brings more than 25 years of banking experience spanning financial management, strategy, risk management, treasury and business development.
He joined Access Bank in 2002 and served as Group Chief Financial Officer between 2007 and 2020, before becoming Executive Director, African Subsidiaries, in November 2020.
In his new role, he will retain responsibility for the bank's African subsidiaries, with an expanded mandate to improve profitability, capital productivity, operational performance and cross-border business integration.
He will also support the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer in the broader strategic management of the bank.
Kumapayi is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and holds an Executive MBA from IMD, Lausanne, and an Executive Master's degree in Digital Transformation and Innovation Leadership from IE University, Madrid. He also holds degrees from the Universities of Lagos and Ibadan and is an alumnus of Harvard Business School's General Management Programme.
Bamisebi to lead technology and digitalisation
Bamisebi has more than 20 years of experience in technology transformation, digital banking, enterprise systems and operational management across the financial services sector and other industries.
Before his appointment, he served as Executive Director, Information Technology and Digitalisation at Access Holdings, overseeing the group's technology strategy and shared technology services, including digital banking infrastructure, enterprise platforms, data management and technology resilience.
His previous roles include Group Director, Information Technology and Operations, and Managing Director of Finserve Africa at Equity Group Holdings Limited. He also served as Group Chief Information Officer at Diamond Bank.
At Access Bank, he will lead the institution's technology and digitalisation agenda, focusing on modernising and simplifying technology platforms, improving operational efficiency, strengthening cybersecurity and resilience, and accelerating digital solutions to enhance customer experience.
He holds a BSc in Computing and Information Technology from the University of Derby and an MBA from Durham Business School. He also has qualifications in Computer Science and Accounting and is an alumnus of the Cambridge Judge Business School Senior Management Programme.
Access Holdings outlines strategic priorities
Commenting on the appointments, Group Chairman of Access Holdings Plc, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, said the group was now focused on translating its established banking presence across Africa and other markets into stronger financial performance and sustainable shareholder value.
He said Kumapayi's elevation would strengthen efforts to improve the contribution of the group's African subsidiaries, while Bamisebi's appointment would bring technology leadership closer to the bank's operations, customers and commercial priorities.
According to him, clearer accountability, stronger execution and disciplined investment in technology would be important to the group's next phase of development.
Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Access Bank, Roosevelt Ogbonna, said the bank was working towards becoming a more productive, efficient and profitable institution through better use of its capital, technology and existing market presence.
He said the focus across the African subsidiaries would be on improving returns, strengthening execution and maximising value from the group's existing franchise.
On technology, Ogbonna identified platform simplification, reliability, innovation and improved customer outcomes at lower operating costs as key priorities.
He added that bringing executive technology leadership directly into the bank's management structure would strengthen the connection between technology investment and business performance.
The appointments mark a further adjustment to Access Bank's leadership structure as the institution seeks to improve the performance of its African operations and deepen the role of technology in its banking services.
