As Nigeria’s skyline continues to change, another demand is growing alongside the country’s expanding commercial, industrial and residential spaces: how to keep buildings comfortable without driving up the cost of running them.
That is bringing renewed attention to air conditioning and climate-control systems as construction and industrial activity continue to expand across the country.
At The Big 5 Construct Nigeria 2026 in Lagos, JMG Limited, through its Clima division and in partnership with Trane Technologies, is highlighting the growing demand for cooling systems that combine reliable performance with greater energy efficiency.
JMG Limited is the official distributor of Trane air conditioning solutions in Nigeria, providing systems for residential, commercial and industrial applications.
According to Vineeth Vijayan, Sales Leader, Nigeria and Ghana, Trane Air Conditioning, the growth in construction is creating demand for different levels of cooling and climate-control solutions.
“Buildings are going up, left, right and centre, and these buildings require cooling, specialised kinds of cooling and commercial cooling,” Vijayan said.
For Idoko Jonahs Adejoh, Business Development Manager, HVAC, JMG Limited, however, the conversation should not stop at how effectively a system cools a building. The cost of operating that system over its lifetime is becoming an equally important consideration.
He said JMG Clima’s partnership with Trane Technologies is focused on providing HVAC solutions that combine cooling performance with energy efficiency.
“JMG Clima has partnered with Trane Technologies to provide heating, ventilation and cooling systems to Nigeria, not just cooling systems, but cooling systems that are energy efficient,” Adejoh said.
He acknowledged that energy-efficient systems can require a higher initial investment, but said the potential reduction in energy consumption could provide greater value over time.
“The initial investment into this might be a bit high, but in the long run, it cuts down on your energy consumption, giving you good value for your investment,” he said.
That consideration is particularly relevant for businesses where electricity and facility-management costs can significantly affect operating expenses.
Beyond equipment supply, Vijayan said JMG’s relationship with Trane also gives customers access to local support beyond the initial purchase.
“Customers are benefiting not really only on the sales aspect, but also on the after-sales aspect,” he said.
As more buildings rise across Nigeria, the cooling industry is therefore facing a market that is looking beyond basic comfort. Energy consumption, reliability, operating costs and long-term value are becoming part of the conversation.
And perhaps the bigger lesson from Nigeria’s construction boom is this: the future of a building will depend not only on how well it is constructed, but on how intelligently it operates.
