FIDELITY BANK DISTRIBUTES 2,500 FOOD PACKS TO COMMUNITIES IN EDO

More than 2,500 residents across eight communities in Edo State have received food supplies from Fidelity Bank Plc as part of the bank’s efforts to support families facing food insecurity.

The intervention was carried out under the Fidelity Food Bank initiative at Uromi Town Hall in Esan Central Local Government Area, bringing the bank’s food-security programme closer to communities in Edo.

Speaking on the initiative, Divisional Head, Brand and Communications, Fidelity Bank Plc, Dr Meksley Nwagboh, said the intervention was designed to provide immediate support while contributing to the wellbeing and resilience of families.

“Today’s distribution will provide over 2,500 beneficiaries with essential food supplies. This event goes beyond the distribution of food items; it is about uplifting lives, strengthening communities and supporting families with resources that contribute to their wellbeing and resilience,” Nwagboh said.

He said the intervention also supports the objectives of Sustainable Development Goal 2, which focuses on ending hunger, achieving food security and improving nutrition.

According to him, Fidelity Bank distributes 10,000 food packs every month through the Fidelity Food Bank programme, working with 19 partners across Nigeria to reach communities where food support is most needed.

The Edo State Government welcomed the intervention, with the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Jerry Uwangue, representing Governor Monday Okpebholo at the distribution.

Uwangue described the initiative as an example of how corporate organisations can contribute to community welfare, particularly as households contend with increasing demands on their resources.

“At a time like this, when family needs come first, this act of kindness demonstrates that corporate organisations have a vital role to play in the wellbeing of our communities,” he said.

He thanked Fidelity Bank for extending the initiative to Uromi and encouraged other organisations to support communities where they operate.

For beneficiaries, the food packs provide immediate assistance with household food needs, with recipients expressing appreciation to the bank and its partners for the intervention.

The Fidelity Food Bank was introduced in April 2023 as one of Fidelity Bank’s flagship community initiatives focused on addressing hunger and malnutrition.

The bank said the programme has distributed more than 300,000 food packs across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones since its launch.

The Uromi distribution therefore forms part of a wider effort that combines regular food support with community-level interventions aimed at reaching households affected by food insecurity.

The initiative also places the role of private-sector organisations in supporting food security alongside government and community efforts, particularly in areas where vulnerable households require immediate assistance.
