AYEDATIWA EXPANDS FREE MEDICAL OUTREACH TO ELDERLY IN ILE-OLUJI, INTRODUCES HEALTH INSURANCE AND MONTHLY STIPEND

The Ondo State Government has extended its free medical outreach for elderly citizens to Ile-Oluji Kingdom, reaffirming its commitment to improving healthcare and social welfare for senior citizens across the state.

The outreach, organised by the Ondo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development under the O'Datiwa Medical Outreach initiative, brought free medical consultations, laboratory tests, treatment, medications and health insurance services directly to elderly residents who may not have easy access to healthcare facilities.

Speaking during the programme at the palace hall of the Jegun of Ile-Oluji, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Seun Osamaye, said Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa's administration remains committed to ensuring that no elderly person is denied access to quality healthcare because of financial challenges.

According to her, the initiative targets vulnerable elderly people living in underserved communities by bringing medical personnel to their doorsteps for comprehensive health checks and treatment at no cost.

She explained that beneficiaries requiring further medical attention would also be covered under the state's free health insurance scheme, allowing them to continue receiving treatment even after the outreach.

Dr. Osamaye disclosed that the government has also introduced the "Owo Arugbo" stipend to support elderly residents with their immediate financial needs, describing the intervention as part of Governor Ayedatiwa's promise to prioritise the welfare of older citizens.

She said the programme demonstrates that the administration is translating campaign promises into practical governance by caring for the most vulnerable members of society.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Kolawole Kayode, commended Governor Ayedatiwa for introducing what he described as a life-changing initiative capable of improving access to healthcare for elderly citizens across Ondo State.

Professor Bridget Awosika, who also addressed participants, noted that the medical outreach has already covered more than seven local government areas and will gradually be extended to all 18 councils in the state. She encouraged beneficiaries to take advantage of the free healthcare services and maintain regular medical check-ups.

The Jegun of Ile-Oluji Kingdom, His Imperial Majesty Oba Dr. Julius Oluwole Olufaderin Adetimehin, expressed appreciation to Governor Ayedatiwa for bringing the programme to his community. He described the initiative as a timely intervention that would significantly improve the health and well-being of elderly residents.

Medical professionals from the Orange Health Insurance Scheme (ORANGHIS), led by Mrs. Precious Akinwumi, carried out health screenings, diagnoses and treatment while distributing medications to beneficiaries during the outreach.

The O'Datiwa Medical Outreach continues to expand across Ondo State as part of the government's broader efforts to improve healthcare delivery, promote healthy ageing and provide social protection for elderly citizens through free medical services, health insurance and financial support.
