GLO PAYS TRIBUTE TO AWUJALE OBA ADETONA AT 2026 OJUDE OBA FESTIVAL

Leading telecommunications company, Gloworld.com, has paid tribute to the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Sikiru Adetona, during the 2026 edition of the Ojude Oba Festival.

The company is marking its 21st consecutive year of supporting the cultural celebration, which is themed “Ojude Oba 2026: Celebrating the Legacy of Oba Sikiru Adetona.”

The festival is being held at the Festival Arena opposite the royal palace in Ijebu Ode and is dedicated to honouring the late monarch, who joined his ancestors on July 13, 2025, after a remarkable 65-year reign.

In a statement issued in Lagos, Globacom said Oba Adetona’s commitment to preserving and promoting Ijebu culture, traditions, and values inspired the company’s long-standing support for the festival.

According to the telecommunications giant, its involvement in this year’s celebration extends beyond sponsorship and reflects a desire to celebrate the enduring legacy of a monarch who elevated Ojude Oba into one of Nigeria’s most respected cultural festivals.

“For us, this year’s edition is not just about sponsoring the festival as we have done over the past twenty years. It is about celebrating the exemplary legacies of the revered father, Oba Adetona, who spared no efforts to place the festival on an enviable pedestal,” the company stated.

Globacom noted that during his reign, Oba Adetona transformed Ojude Oba into a unifying cultural platform that brought together Ijebu sons and daughters from around the world regardless of religious affiliation.

The company added that its two-decade support has contributed significantly to the growth of the festival into a globally recognised cultural event attracting dignitaries, tourists, and visitors from within and outside Nigeria.

Globacom also reaffirmed its commitment to promoting Nigeria’s cultural heritage through sustained support for traditional festivals and cultural initiatives across the country.

Oba Adetona was enthroned on April 2, 1960, and remained on the throne for 65 years, during which Ojude Oba witnessed remarkable growth in profile, participation, and international recognition.
