The Working People Movement for Good Governance has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and people-centered leadership across Nigeria, as it gains growing support from union leaders, including stakeholders in the oil and gas sector.
The civil society-driven movement, formed by workers across multiple sectors of the economy, says its mission is to ensure governance in Nigeria moves beyond political rhetoric and delivers measurable impact on citizens’ welfare, job security, and economic stability.
According to the Movement’s Protem Secretary General, Comrade Idibra Morister, Ph.D, good governance must translate into real improvements in workers’ lives, families, and communities. He emphasized that leadership at the federal, state, and local government levels must prioritize fair wages, social protection, sustainable development, and responsible management of public resources.
The group stressed that elected officials are trustees of the people’s mandate and must demonstrate empathy, integrity, and fiscal responsibility in managing national and subnational resources.
Beyond advocacy, the Working People Movement stated that it will actively monitor policies, engage stakeholders, and promote reforms that ensure governance structures serve the broader public interest rather than sectional or personal agendas.
Meanwhile, union leaders within the oil and gas industry have welcomed the emergence of the Movement. Prince Billy Hillary confirmed that leaders in the sector view the initiative as a positive step that could benefit not only oil and gas workers but unions across various industries nationwide.
The Movement also announced that additional processes, projects, and strategic initiatives will be unveiled in the coming weeks as part of a broader roadmap aimed at strengthening democratic accountability and inclusive development in Nigeria.
With increasing conversations around governance reform, economic hardship, and workers’ rights, the Working People Movement for Good Governance says it aims to become a strong civic voice advocating justice, equity, and sustainable prosperity for all Nigerians.
