IKEJA LG: AKEEM OLALEKAN DAUDA PRESENTS ₦13.9bn ‘BETTER DAYS’ BUDGET FOR 2026



The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), on Wednesday 17th December, 2025 presented a proposed ₦13.92bn budget for the 2026 fiscal year, tagged “Budget of Better Days 1.0,” to the Legislative Council of the local government.

Dauda said the budget was the product of an inclusive process involving community stakeholders’ engagement, a budget retreat and wide consultations aimed at reflecting the needs and aspirations of residents.

According to him, the proposed budget size stands at ₦13,923,882,601.48, structured to balance effective administration with infrastructural and human capital development.

A breakdown showed that recurrent expenditure was estimated at ₦7,350,523,690.96, representing 52.8 per cent, while capital expenditure stood at ₦6,573,358,910.52, accounting for 47.2 per cent of the total budget.

The chairman disclosed that 26.8 per cent of the capital allocation had been earmarked for works and infrastructure, including road construction, rehabilitation, drainage systems and public facility upgrades. Education would receive 7.09 per cent, health 4.80 per cent, environment 4.08 per cent, while 5.03 per cent was allocated to other human capital development areas such as youth empowerment, women development, social welfare and skills acquisition programmes.

In his response, the Leader of the House, Ikeja Local Government Legislative Chamber, Hon. Rasheed Ogunseye, commended the chairman for what he described as a people-focused budget, noting that the proposal aligned with the vision of delivering better days to residents of the council.

Ogunseye said the presentation came at a time when residents were demanding tangible dividends of democracy, adding that the executive arm had demonstrated commitment to development within a short period of over 100 days.

He assured that the legislative arm would exercise due diligence in scrutinising the budget in line with best practices, while facilitating its timely processing, approval and passage in the overall interest of the people.

Similarly, the Chairman, House Committee on Budget and Appropriation, and the Chief Whip, Hon Salami Idris Opeyemi praised Dauda for presenting a development-driven budget centred on infrastructure and human capital development.

He said the 2026 proposal reflected the chairman’s vision and commitment to improving the living standards of residents of Ikeja Local Government, promising that the legislative house would give the executive all necessary support to ensure the smooth passage, approval and effective implementation of the budget.

Dauda, who assured residents of transparency, accountability and fiscal discipline in the execution of the budget, urged the council to work collectively towards delivering sustainable development at the grassroots.

The 2026 budget presentation ceremony at Ikeja Local Government was attended by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Abisola Omisore; the Management Staff led by the Council Manager, Mrs. Juliana Taiwo Odubeko; the Head of Department, Budget, Dr. Anita Yemisi Razak; Heads of Departments and Units of the Local Government; as well as party leaders and members of the Ikeja LGA Executive Committee led by the LGA Chairman, Alhaji Adekunle Dally-Adeokun, and his Vice Chairman, Prince Oluranti Olufon.

Also in attendance were APC Apex Leaders, including Chief Funso Ologunde, Apostle Olowoporoku, and a host of other respected party leaders. The event was further graced by the presence of the Lagos State APC Assistant Legal Adviser, Barrister Ladigbolu. Six councilors representing various wards were also present: Hon. Rasheed Ogunseye, Leader of House; Hon. Jinadu Shakirat Idowu, Deputy Leader of the House, representing Ward B; Hon. Lawal Ganiu Sola, Chief Whip, representing Ward F; Hon. Folami Ibrahim Babatunde, Deputy Majority Leader, representing Ward E; and Hon. Obadeyi Saburi Olayinka, Deputy Chief Whip, representing Ward C. The Clerk of the House, Mrs. Ogunmoyero Kofoworola O., was also in attendance.
