GLO INNOV8 COMPETITION ENTERS FINAL STAGE WITH 3 SCHOOLS COMPETING FOR ₦5 MILLION GRAND PRIZE

The Glo Innov8 National STEM Competition for Girls has reached its final stage, with three exceptional schools — Ephraim High School, Isolo (Lagos), Regina Pacis International School, Onitsha (Anambra), and Peakfield Academy, Jos (Plateau) — set to battle for the ₦5 million prize at the grand finale, scheduled to hold at the Mike Adenuga Centre (Alliance Française), Ikoyi, Lagos.

Organized by the Glo Foundation, Globacom’s CSR arm, the competition attracted entries from over 200 schools nationwide, celebrating innovation, creativity, and problem-solving among young Nigerian girls. The initiative, launched in honour of the International Day of the Girl Child, aims to inspire participants to “Compete, Innovate, and Win” while promoting girls’ interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields.

The winning school will receive ₦2 million, with laptops for the two student representatives and ₦200,000 for their teacher or mentor. The second and third-place teams will also go home with consolation prizes.

Judges of the virtual phase — Tosin Olabode, Amina Gabriel, and Sharon Ibejih — praised the innovation and creativity displayed by the finalists. From apps to robotic prototypes tackling issues such as agriculture, security, waste management, and firefighting, the judges described the competition as a powerful platform for grooming Nigeria’s next generation of women STEM leaders.
