President Bola Tinubu has approved major changes in the leadership of the Nigerian Armed Forces in what the Presidency describes as a move to further strengthen the nation’s security architecture.
In the new appointments announced on Thursday, General Olufemi Oluyede replaces General Christopher Musa as the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS).
Also appointed are:
- Major-General W. Shaibu – Chief of Army Staff
- Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke – Chief of Air Staff
- Rear Admiral I. Abbas – Chief of Naval Staff
The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, retains his position.
A statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, noted that President Tinubu appreciated the outgoing Service Chiefs for their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership” to the country.
The President charged the newly appointed Service Chiefs to justify the confidence reposed in them by deepening professionalism, operational efficiency, loyalty, and synergy within the Armed Forces.
The appointments take immediate effect.
