The O’datiwa Women Free Skills Acquisition Training Program, launched by Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, is set to graduate its first set of trainees in catering.
Since its commencement in February, the program has provided women with hands-on training in culinary arts, equipping them with practical skills to thrive as entrepreneurs in the food service, catering, and hospitality sector.
At a recent practical session held at the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in Akure, trainees showcased their creativity by preparing a variety of cuisines and confectioneries.
Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Bosede Osamaye, evaluated the dishes and commended the women for their professionalism and creativity. She emphasized that the initiative aligns with Governor Aiyedatiwa’s Ease Agenda, designed to empower women and boost their economic independence.
Also assessing the trainees, Dr. Jumoke Aborode, National President of the Female Progressive Skilled Artisan Initiative, praised their culinary expertise, personally ordering 30 sandwiches. She encouraged them to master both local and continental dishes while staying committed to self-improvement.
Some facilitators—Mrs. Ruth Olagundoye, Mrs. Mariam Yusuf, and Mrs. Bukola Tinubu—along with a trainee, Mrs. Bukola Olaseni, shared testimonies on how the training has been life-transforming, providing participants with opportunities to earn a living and contribute meaningfully to society.
Previous sessions featured lessons in the preparation of snacks such as doughnuts, chin-chin, puff-puff, and buns, as well as essentials like tomato paste and sardines.
The graduation ceremony is expected to further celebrate the impact of the program in advancing women’s empowerment across the state.
