GLO EXTENDS CULTURAL COMMITMENT, RENEWS OFALA FESTIVAL SPONSORSHIP

Telecommunications giant, Globacom, has renewed its sponsorship of the 2025 edition of the Ofala Festival, reaffirming its long-standing support for Nigeria’s cultural heritage.

The festival, a revered ceremony performed annually by His Royal Majesty, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha, will hold on October 17 and 18, with the Iru Ofala and Azu Ofala marking the highlights.

At a press briefing held at Ime Obi, the Obi’s Palace in Onitsha on Thursday, the Ofala Festival Organising Committee confirmed Globacom as the principal sponsor, a role it has maintained since 2011.

The company explained that its support reflects its belief in culture as a driver of employment, tourism, and economic growth, stressing its vision to elevate the festival to global prominence.

“In 2025, Nigeria’s tourism sector is projected to contribute ₦11.2 trillion to GDP, with domestic tourism spending expected at ₦6.1 trillion and international visitor expenditure at ₦803.2 billion. These figures underscore the importance of cultural events like Ofala in driving growth,” Glo stated.

As part of this year’s partnership, the telecoms provider said it would roll out customer-focused initiatives, including special subscriber packages, and continue upgrading its 4G-LTE infrastructure in the South-East.

It also highlighted recently launched offerings such as the Talkmasta plan, which provides extra talk time and data, and the Welcome Bonus for new subscribers.

Chairman of the Strategic Marketing and Communications Committee, Mr. Nnaemeka Maduegbuna, outlined activities for the 2025 Ofala, including the annual lecture on October 7, the Oreze Art Exhibition, the Youth Carnival on October 15, medical outreach, and a Royal Banquet in honour of Igwe Achebe on October 22.

He assured that meticulous plans were in place to deliver a colourful, secure, and memorable celebration.
