As part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility, Nestlé Nigeria has introduced clear caps across its Nestlé Pure Life bottled water portfolio, enhancing recyclability and supporting a circular economy. Initially launched on the 33cl bottle, the new clear caps are now available on all sizes, excluding the Nestlé Pure Life Protect range.
The switch from traditional blue caps to transparent ones simplifies the recycling process by eliminating color pigmentation, allowing recycling partners to more efficiently identify, sort, and repurpose the plastic. This strategic move supports Nestlé’s broader goal of promoting more sustainable packaging solutions.
“At Nestlé Pure Life, caring for our consumers and for the planet in every possible way has always been at the heart of what we do,” said Olutayo Olatunji, Business Executive Officer, Nestlé Waters Nigeria. “The clear cap isn’t just a design update—it’s a reflection of our deeper commitment to sustainability. From being the first and only water brand in Nigeria to introduce bottles made with 50% rPET, to now eliminating coloured caps, every step we take is intentional. We are focused on creating a 360° hydration experience that prioritizes both people and the planet.”
As global conversations around plastic pollution continue to intensify, Nestlé is taking proactive steps to reduce its environmental footprint through packaging innovation. The clear cap initiative is aligned with the company's global commitment to ensure that 100% of its packaging is recyclable or reusable by 2025.
“At Nestlé, sustainability is not a buzzword—it’s a responsibility,” added Victoria Uwadoka, Corporate Communications, Public Affairs and Sustainability Lead, Nestlé Nigeria. “The introduction of the clear cap marks a meaningful shift in how we design with purpose. Across our brands, we are moving beyond function to impact—creating packaging that meets consumer needs, supports our recycling partners, and safeguards the environment.”
This development underscores Nestlé Nigeria’s role as a leader in sustainable hydration, offering consumers not just quality drinking water, but also packaging that reflects a strong environmental conscience. The clear cap initiative represents another milestone in Nestlé’s journey to shape a waste-free future—locally and globally.
